During a career at the forefront of international car rental e-commerce dating back to 2000, I have seen markets and technology evolve, and the needs, expectations and diversity of customers grow rapidly.
Development has been continuous, and besides the evolvement of the web platform, I was responsible for the onboarding of franchisees totalling 29 languages, as well as managing corporate partnerships, legal compliance, payment authorisation implementation and many other initiatives.
Although I make reference to a number of car rental companies throughout this website, I do so without bias towards one company being better or more preferable than another.
In maintaining professional integrity, no confidential information, intellectual property, faults, problems or criticisms of any company are disclosed on this website, nor offline between companies.
Multiple streams needed to be developed and managed beyond the main core web platform to allow booking channels such as Booking.com, Expedia, Holiday Autos and Zest Car Rental to offer our vehicles for selection.
We also worked with a number of airline and hotel partners which enabled their customers to also make car reservations whilst booking their flights or hotels, or they could book via one of a number of dedicated co-branded websites which were built on separate platforms.
Loyalty schemes with companies such as Nectar, etc, were also catered for on a separate platform which allowed points to be accumulated and redeemed against car rentals.
Each of those platforms needed to be developed and managed separately, whilst also communicating to the company's main booking engine to ensure that availability of vehicles was up to date on all channels.
So a very busy, innovative and rewarding time!
Support was also provided to car rental franchisees worldwide who had the option to either come on board onto the main core web platform, or use third party web platforms which needed to integrate with our systems.
The management of an international car rental platform in 29 languages was not only challenging from the perspective of language, but also differences in international laws and local cultures.
All of this experience, backed up with a technical background in web development provides me with firm foundations to be able to help, advise and collaborate with car rental companies of all sizes.
